Beta phase
DPP and EPCIS as SaaS
The Digital Product Passport as a ready-made cloud solution, operated by benelog. The Trusted Link for every Digital Product Passport.
Want to implement the Digital Product Passport without running a platform of your own? Our SaaS gives you the product passport as a ready-made cloud solution, conformant to GS1 standards. At its core is the Trusted Link: every product gets a GS1 Digital Link under your own GS1 company prefix, optionally on your own domain. With a Trusted Tag, the authenticity of the product can be verified as well. The offer is aimed at businesses, public authorities and research institutions. It is free during the beta, and you can start right away with a test prefix.
What sets this product passport apart.Built on GS1 standards.
Fully conformant to GS1 standards
The passport implements EPCIS 2.0, GS1 Digital Link and the GS1 Web Vocabulary in full, and it carries anything from a single product to an entire range. Suppliers, retailers and authorities read it without a special solution.
Connected to PIM and ERP
Connectors for UnoPim, Odoo, ERPNext, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Narravero and SAP take the product data from the system you maintain anyway. No more duplicate data maintenance, and everything can be controlled through the REST API.
Interoperable
It works together with other systems through open standards. Nobody has to build a special interface.
Web-native
The data is machine-readable and linkable, the way the web expects it: GS1 Digital Link as the address, GS1 Web Vocabulary as the shared meaning.
Both layers are part of the SaaS. You store master data through the master data API of the GS1 Conformant Resolver, linked directly to the respective GS1 Digital Links, optimised for serialisation and batch/lot. You capture and query events from production and the supply chain through the full EPCIS 2.0 interface, with its own repository at api.epc.is. Product address and supply chain data therefore sit on one platform.
Why an early start pays off.One channel, all the way into retail.
The SaaS connects event data from production and the supply chain (EPCIS 2.0) with the product passport that customers scan on the product. Production and marketing work on the same data.
What beta means here
The SaaS runs as a test service and is free of charge in this phase. The EPCIS repository and its query interface, master data and the GS1 Conformant Resolver are already available with the feature set we will also offer in production. Because we are running the complete stack together in this form for the first time, some errors may still occur. We make no promises about availability or support in this phase. Please keep your own copies of your data.
To get started we assign you a test prefix from the GS1 range 952. Working with your own GTINs is possible too, but at your own responsibility: we then register your links in the production registry of GS1, and they work outside epc.is as well. This interplay is new for GS1 too, and we expect further changes there. The terms in detail are in the beta terms of use on epc.is.
How the beta works
Getting access takes four steps.
Create an account
You register on epc.is with your email address and confirm it. You set your password through the link in the confirmation email.
Tell us your company
After signing in you request access for your company. There are three ways to do this: with your GS1 Germany access key, with your GS1 company prefix and a GTIN or GLN as evidence, or with a test prefix.
We review
With a test prefix you are activated straight away. In all other cases we check whether you are entitled to act for the company and its numbers. We then set up your access and notify you by email.
Start publishing
You sign in again and find your access set up. You create products, fill in product passports and print QR codes that lead to your product data through GS1 Digital Link.
What happens next
The beta is the beginning. In parallel we are preparing the production service, including for international use. We will keep you posted on where things stand.
The production service will follow on epc.is (opens in a new tab). For that we are introducing plans based on data volume, and we are extending the feature set further. The beta shows us how the platform is used. That helps us set the plans fairly.
The beta is also a channel to the community for us. You gain early experience of your own with our stack, and your feedback feeds into how we develop it further.
Data you create in the beta should, where possible, be carried over into production. Whether and how that works in an individual case is something we will clarify once the legal basis for it is in place.
If, while testing, you find that you would rather operate the product passport yourself, the route for that is the Business Edition. We can start on that directly.
What you need in order to register
To get access you need:
- A professional context: you are registering for a business, public authority or research institution. epc.is is not offered to consumers.
- A GS1 company prefix of your own, or a test prefix from the GS1 range 952 that we assign to you.
- An email address where you can be reached, ideally your company address.
